Fighting Phat

I need to lose weight and this blog is about my fight against fat. I was 145 kgs (319lbs) at the start of my quest. My goal is to lose 45 kgs (99lbs) of fat. I will be posting my experiences, exercise charts, nutrition plans, and weight on a regular basis to track my progress towards my goal weight of 100 kgs (222lbs). I hope that there are some people out there that might want to join me, post comments, or who may find my blog helpful for any weight loss they may wish to achieve.

Felling Good, Feeling Fit

My partner got up early this morning to go to the beautician to get her face done, and had a ridiculously early appointment for a Saturday.  I decided to make the most of it and head out into the storm to get to the gym and get the cardio out of the way.  Had I not done so, I felt that it would have been easy to stay at home and not do anything at all today.

I braved the rain and wind walking for10 minutes to the gym.  I have had a sore knee since Thursday morning, and it was giving me some pain on the walk to the gym.  I decided to give the cross trainer a miss today and to just walk on the treadmill.  I must say that having an MP3 player makes the gym and walking so much more bearable.  Having music to listen to really makes a difference to my desire to get to the gym, and my enjoyment of it.  The music can isolate you from other gym members as you’re not really in the mood to talk, but I am there primarily to work out so it serves as a good deterrent to time wasting chatter!  I try to leave that to the end.

I did two sets of 25 minutes on the treadmill.  I walked at 6.5 km/ph for each session, which was a pretty good pace.  Initially I wasn’t sure if I would be able to keep up, however my knee worked into it and the pain subsided during the workout.    I did over 600 calories and 5.5 kms distance

My trainer came over part way through and told me that I should expect to have the eating plan by Monday.  She wanted to know if I was allergic to anything, or if there was anything I could not eat.  I leap at the chance and told her no tofu under any circumstances!  It looked like I needn’t have bothered telling her that, she looked shocked that I would even think of such a thing!  I’m really looking forward to getting that and getting started on the diet now that I am more used to exercising.

So, all in all I am feeling pretty good.  I am a bit sore and the rest of the day off will do me good.  My partner and I are having a day at home to finalise the stuff that hasn’t been done since we moved in.  It wont be much fun, but it is necessary to get ourselves organized and properly settled in.  I better get going and get the lattes on!  Fight the good fight!

Dear Fighter
I have read your last 2 blogs. Progress is picking up, you will soon be below the 140 mark and it will be on down through the 130s. I did not realise the trainer hadnt given you a diet. Was it just foods to avoid? The social function was a first test on handling social eating. Keep up the fight. Regards. Aleman

Hi Aleman, thanks for the comment and coming back to my blog.

I am looking forward to achieveing the first short term goal of 140kgs. I hope the reach that by Friday, and I should if my present weight loss rate continues. I will feel much better being in the 130s, as opposed to being in the 140s as I currently am.

The trainer had not given me a diet to follow at all. Since I have been seeing her, she has told me to eat as I used to. Teh theory was that too much change at one time is likely to leave my body in a state where it will hang on to all the energy it can if the intake goes down sharply and the exercise rate rises substantially at the same time.

I did not follow this advice to the letter. I decided instead to eat what I thought was 'normal food' (no takeaways and so on) in portions that were large enough to stop me from becoming ravenous, and breaking the diet. This low key approach has made for a relatively easy transition phase from eating whatever I wanted and doing no exercise, to eating more healthily and doing a lot more exercise. The diet from the trainer is the next stage in my fight against fat. I'll be sure to keep you posted on how that goes.
